Lone Tree Digital Gouache

This is an example of what can be done by combining a promising digital photograph with post-processing in Adobe Photoshop, and finally turning it into a digital painting using Corel Painter.

This image looks good at print sizes from 20"x14" up to 30"x24" because of its high resolution, and breezy low-contrast look.  The bigger it gets the more interesting it gets.

Artistic/Technical notes: When working with this sort of subtle, ethereal subject, one must ensure that defining details - in this case branches, leaves, ground flowers and scudding clouds - attract the viewer's eye through the use of color, contrast and texture, thereby bringing the viewer's attention to the central theme of the lone tree.

Note that the far background retains the color scheme of the tree, but is slightly blurred and therefore under-emphasized and of secondary importance to your eyes.
